Lemon Grass Powder

Lemongrass Powder

Cymbopogon also known as lemongrass, barbed wire grass, silky heads, Cochin grass, Malabar grass, oily heads, citronella grass or fever grass, is a genus of Asian, African, Australian, and tropical island plants in the grass family.

Some species (particularly Cymbopogon citratus) are commonly cultivated as culinary and medicinal herbs because of their scent, resembling that of lemons (Citrus limon). The name cymbopogon derives from the Greek words kymbe and pogon which mean [that] in most species, the hairy spikelets project from boat-shaped spathes. Lemongrass and its oil are believed to possess therapeutic properties.

Lemongrass powder taste a bit tart and light with lemon and pepper notes along with mint and ginger undertones. Lemongrass is used primarily in Indonesian, Malaysian, Sri Lankan, Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. This aromatic herb is also found in some Caribbean recipes, and its popularity in the US has grown rapidly in the last 15 years. It is commonly used in teas, soups, and curries. It is also suitable for use with beef, chicken, fish, and seafood. A key ingredient in many Asian dishes, Lemongrass is used in Thailand in various recipes in the same manner that we use parsley.
